Grace Jong Eun Lee (b. 1970) is a composer and performer dedicated to inter-culturalism. She received her Bmus in 1995 and an Mmus in 1998 from the University of British Columbia. Currently, she teaches the Kayagum (Korean Zither) at UBC as well as directs and performs in the School of Music Korean Ensemble. Her compositions reflect a combination of Korean, Chinese, and Western instruments. She is strongly influenced by the sounds of nature and often uses them in her works to convey the East Asian sense of space and emptiness. Among other venues, her compositions have been performed at the Sonic Boom Festival, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and for the Canadian Society of Asian Arts.
