The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra is pleased to announce our first ever Winter Solstice Concert! YALDA is the Persian name for the longest night of the year, and the celebrations that come with it. The VICO will mark the occasion with a contemplative, atmospheric evening of chamber music for voices and intercultural strings.

Small ensembles and soloists – including a trio of Persian singers (Hazar Ava), a cello quintet (Cellissimo), a kamanche consort (Janan), baritone/guitarist Willy Miles-Grenzberg, erhu virtuoso Yun Song, guitarist/vocalist Moshe Denburg, kamanche player/composer Behzad Mirloo and narrator/reader Jenny Lu – will perform repertoire from a range of world music traditions: Persian, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew and more. The overarching theme: bringing light, love and warmth to combat the darkness of winter, and peace to counteract the busy, often chaotic feeling of the holiday season. With stage design by Fariba Emami.
