About the Project

The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra is proud to release this new series of filmed performances featuring music and musicians associated with In the Key of the World, the orchestra’s extraordinary album released in 2020. The recording has been nominated for two 2021 Western Canadian Music Awards: Global Artist of the Year and Instrumental Artist of the Year. (Listen and/or buy a digital copy here.)

Watch the VICO perform three tracks from the album:

  • “The King is Dancing” by VICO’s founding Artistic Director, Moshe Denburg
  • “Gypsy Chronicles” by John Oliver
  • “Suite concertante: à cette époque-là” by Farshid Samandari

Also on the bill: videos of a range of smaller intercultural ensembles comprised of VICO roster members and special guests:

  • Niel Golden (hang drum), Douglas Hensley (lute), Mark Ferris (violin), and Sungyong Lim (cello)
  • Geronimo Mendoza (oboe) and Nicole Linaksita (piano)
  • Sina Ettehad (kamanche) and Eva Hodge (piano)
  • Harrie Starreveld (shakuhachi)

This video celebration of the VICO’s latest album follows the ensemble’s acclaimed virtual performance at Festival Montréal / Nouvelles Musiques, presented by Societé de la musique contemporaine du Québec in February 2021 (available to watch online until August at: https://youtu.be/uKvZVmxK08M).
