Are you passionate about music in general, and the VICO’s work in particular? Are you interested in what happens behind the scenes? Do you like to help exciting and ground-breaking projects come to fruition?
…Then the VICO wants you! Specifically, our Board of Directors is currently recruiting new members. Previous experience on an arts/nonprofit board is not necessary (although of course it is an asset, if you happen to have any!); the only hard and fast requirement for the job is a willingness to commit some time and energy to the VICO cause.
What does the Board do?
All kinds of things! There are regular meetings and of course the “big picture” organizational stuff like governance and strategic planning, but Board members also support VICO’s programming in more day-to-day ways, e.g. by planning and/or hosting events, networking in all kinds of different communities, providing hospitality for visiting artists, and more.
These are exciting times for the VICO; 2016/17 is our 15th season, and it promises to be a rich smorgasbord of concerts, chamber recitals, workshops for musicians and composers, free educational presentations, performances by acclaimed guest soloists from Vietnam, China and Iran, and more. Looking ahead to 2018 and beyond, there are many other fascinating projects in various stages of development, not only close to home in BC but also across Canada and on the international stage. Current Board President Diana Stewart-Imbert has this to say: “The Board and staff have a lot of fun working collaboratively on various projects throughout each season (concerts, festivals, ‘fun’draisers…), and bringing people and communities into the fascinating world of intercultural music. We share a sense of belonging together, and we take great pride in contributing to the VICO’s growth as it becomes an integral part of Vancouver’s social/cultural fabric.”
